Carmen Caserta
Bio
Carmen was born in Los Angeles, CA, and grew up in the San Fernando Valley. She moved to San Diego as a budding singer/songwriter in 2001, when she was just nineteen years old. After spending a few years teaching herself to play piano and write music, Carmen began to feel a strong pull toward academic pursuits. With a lifelong fascination surrounding the complexities of the human experience, she decided to pursue a BA in psychology and graduated with Honors from Chapman University in 2008.
Carmen's special aptitudes for language, writing, and analytical thinking combined with her value for social justice led her to law school. During her legal studies, Carmen focused on human and civil rights. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson School of Law with Honors in 2011 and spent the first part of her legal career representing indigent refugees fleeing persecution in their countries of origin to seek asylum in the United States. Carmen has also enjoyed practicing law in business, contracts, and intellectual property, having represented clients in the fashion, beauty, and arts industries in San Francisco and New York City.
After representing herself for a large part of her own divorce, Carmen became intimately familiar with the intricacies of the family law system as well as the more personal aspects of dissolving a marriage. During this experience Carmen tapped into a profound empathy for others in similar circumstances. This newfound empathic connection led Carmen to discover a niche interest in advocating for equity in the divorce process. Her approach to legal representation combines a fierce passion for justice with a deeply held value for compassion; her practice is guided by the ultimate intention to manifest fairness while minimizing the various emotional, psychological and even spiritual difficulties that can often accompany family law proceedings.
Outside of the law, Carmen spends her time enjoying the beach, at home in quiet contemplation, reading and writing, singing and noodling on the piano, and practicing various forms of yoga. She lives in Del Mar with her beloved French bulldog Mr. Monk.
